Little Cumbria

So, as some of you know, a few weeks ago I was asked to participate in a show on Radio Cumbria called Little Cumbria. Basically it is a week in the life of people living in Cumbria (original blog post here.) As I said before, it was a lot of fun to do, and I was really pleased when asked if I would participate again.

The producer of the show kindly sent me a CD, so I can now share with you my time on Little Cumbria. I'm one of three featured on the show, and for those who don't know, my name is Pamela Roach.

Day One:

Day Two:

Day Three:

Day Four:

Day Five:

As I already said, I didn't record the segment myself, I'm way too shy to be doing something like that! My mum was pleased the voice they gave me was Scottish, as we are very proud of our roots. Anyway, I hope you guys like it!

Blog Award :)

I was over the moon when I found out my blog had been given the Honest Scrap Award! Thanks so much Lacey!

Rules:  List 10 honest things about myself and pass it along

10 Things About Me:

I have an irrational fear of my food processor
I'm convinced I have the smartest toddler in the history of the world
My favourite song changes on a daily basis
I am physically unable to answer the question: 'what is your favourite book/movie' as there is no answer - I have about fifty for each
Sometimes I like to pull funny faces in the mirror, then get very embarrassed when I find my husband has been watching
There is nothing a Mocha latte with an extra shot of espresso can't fix
I'm pretty sure I have a schizophrenic cat
I hate movies involving the world ending, or massive asteroids etc as it makes me think it's gonna happen
I have the biggest crush on Sam & Dean Winchester (yes, the characters, not the actors)
 My middle name is Lillian

I would like to give the Honest Scrap to the following blogs:

Still smiling at the award :)

Header

So I decided to give my blog a facelift, and since I was mucking around with everything and pretty much changing the whole damn thing, I figured I should get a new header.

But I couldn't find one that felt just right, that felt like me.  And since the blog is called All About Me (not in a pretentious way, more like all the little bits about me that make me who I am - like writing, reading, being a wife and mother, the way I miss my family and friends...anyway, you get the point.) I needed a header that felt right.  In the end I gave up.  And got my husband to make me one.  I'm not stupid when it comes to computers, but he is a bit of genius when it comes to them, so it was breeze for him to whip me up one.  (He also did the layout for me lol)

So what you see is a few of my favourite books, and trust me, it is only a few.  I wish I could put all my favourites up, but space is kinda limited.

The husband deserves a nice big thank you for his hard work (he isn't really speaking to me - I kept coming up with new ideas and bugging the shit out of him!) and if you want to check out his website, this is it here and you can find him on twitter here

Surprising Email

So, I got an interesting email last week.  From a producer at the BBC.  At first I thought it was a windup - he said he had read my blog and liked my writing style, and wanted me to take part on a feature he produces on Radio Cumbria.  I was to keep a diary for five days and then either go down to the station and record it, or he could get someone else to voice it for me.  Totally took him up on the offer for someone else to do it - I'm a writer!  I like the shadows, not the spotlight.  If I did I wouldn't spend half my time by myself with a computer for company, right?

Anyhoo, it was really fun.  I mean, when I said yes I didn't really think about what I was going to write about, and by day two I kinda panicked.  I don't lead the most interesting life.  My day tends to consist of wake up, get toddler up, watch as my living room resembles aftermath of tornado, lunch, nap, possibly a walk, dinner, write if my brain isn't too frazzled, coma-like sleep.  So why the hell would anyone want to hear about that?

But as I started writing the diary, I realised it gave me a chance to say how I saw the world, how its the little things in your day that make things worth writing about.  Once I knew what direction to take the diary in, it sailed by and I wished it had lasted longer than five days.  Maybe it will encourage me to visit my blog more, and see if I can up my followers a bit :)

I never really thought my blog got much traffic.  I've made some friends in some online communities and its thanks to them I have any followers at all.  But just because you don't have hundreds of followers, or are a featured blogger over at 20sb, doesn't mean the right kind of people won't ever see what you have to say.  So my parting words are these:  treat your blog like an audition.  Stay true to yourself and never lose your 'voice', but never forget, you never know who might find you.
